MODEL 12718
Antenna Positioner

The TSTAP Series Model 12718 Antenna Positioner consists of a two-axis pedestal with an external controller. This system can be positioned in elevation and azimuth by a local controller or remote inputs with accuracy to within 0.01°. The externally controlled pedestal is capable of simultaneously rotating an antenna assembly in azimuth up to 10°/sec while positioning the attached antenna -10° to +100° in elevation. Other speeds and torques are available.

TWO-AXIS PEDESTAL

The two-axis pedestal is equipped with a pulse width modulated servo drive system and power supply. The externally controlled pedestal is capable of simultaneously rotating an antenna assembly in azimuth while positioning it in elevation. The rotating velocity and elevation travel of the pedestal is software-limited but can be designed to meet specific customer requirements. Two specially designed low backlash, heavy duty steel spur gear systems provide durable as well as reliable means of positioning an attached antenna. An integrated slip ring/rotary joint package allows signal routing through the pedestal. Electro-mechanical limits at the elevation axis extremes, interlock switches on the access doors, as well as stow pin mechanisms on both axes provide an added safety measure.

ANTENNA CONTROL UNIT (ACU)

The Antenna Control Unit (ACU) is a 19" rack-mounted microprocessor controller that is capable of manually positioning the antenna in azimuth and elevation. The ACU provides digital steering commands to the positioner and receives azimuth and elevation positioning information accuate to within 0.01°. An LCD on the front panel provides an up-to-date and accurate display of the system's status for the operator. The ACU may command the positioner using a joystick on the front panel or relinquish control to a remote input. An azimuth/elevation offset capability is included in this system. The offset feature allows the user to program the desired offset for alignment purposes. Circuit protection for the system is provided by circuit breakers located within the ACU. Cable lengths to 400' interface the ACU with the pedestal.
