Antenna and Rotator
The Technical Systems Associates TSSAP Series Model 11112 Antenna and Rotator consists of a single-axis, lightweightm heavy-duty antenna pedestal and shaped beam emitter antenna. It operates over a frequency range of 2700 to 3100 mHz. The rotator can drive the 12 foot long antenna at 10 rpm in winds up to 65 knots, with a speed regulation of 5 percent. This lightweight antenna/ rotator assembly is designed to be mounted on either a tower or a ship's superstructure. The equipment is controlled by a panel remotely located from the rotator.
The antenna assembly consists of a cosecant squared shaped beam 12 foot long by 44" high reflector with support base and a tripod supported feed. The reflector is a three piece expanded aluminum mesh surface reflector supported by rectangular aluminum tubing. This construction provides high structural integrity with very light weight and reduced wind loading. The feed assembly is a waveguide supported octagonal horn which provides optimum illumination for the vertical and horizontal aperture of the antenna. It has a feed cover of 5 mil Kapton to provide for high power transmission capability and 5 psig pressurization.
The pedestal is a single-axis antenna pedestal driven by a 480 VAC, three-phase induction motor. This pedestal is capable of continuous travel through the use of a specially designed, low backlash, heavy-duty steel spur gear system. The pedestal drive has internal "soft start" protection providing ramp-up and ramp-down current limit for start and stop control of the system. A Size 23 torque transmitting synchro is anti-backlash coupled to the drive shaft to provide data accuracy to within 0.5°. Three phase contactor and circuit breaker assemblies provide control as well as protection for the pedestal's electrical system. A custom designed, waveguide rotary joint is integrated into the main shaft of the pedestal. This single channel rotary joint is configured to operate in the 2100 to 3100 mHz range.
The aluminum pedestal is sealed for shipboard or severe coastal environments. The gasketed access doors, double-sealed azimuth shaft, as well as the gear box and pedestal base O-rings protect the interior components from the environment. A 40 watt head lamp is provided to inhibit condensation within the pedestal and to provide illumination during inspection periods.
The Model 11112 Antenna and Rotator is controlled by a remote panel located up to 400 feet from the unit.
